Dubai is a 1,588 square mile metropolis situated in one of the top ten richest countries in the world, the United Arab Emirates.
When we think of Dubai we often conjure up images of Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible, futuristic cities and fast cars or some people assume it’s all sand, camels and oil.
The reality is that Dubai is an amazing city, absolutely packed full of exciting opportunities and experiences just waiting to be discovered.
Here are 5 of my personal greatest things about Dubai and why I think you should visit.
1) Burj Khalifa
The Burj Khalifa is an 830m tall building standing next to The Dubai Mall, sounds boring, right?
The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world and it is absolutely immense. All around the base of the Burj Khalifa you see people crouching or laying on the ground to try and get the perfect angle to capture the entirety of the building in one photograph, and failing.
They call it a “megatall skyscraper”, but I call it vertigo-inducingly brilliant.
For as little as 125 AED (£25) you can enjoy the At The Top experience where you will be whisked to the 125th and 124th floor in a double-decker lift (seriously) that reaches speeds of 22mph.
Or, if you’re willing, pay 350 AED (£75) to go all the way to the 148th floor!
Truly an amazing experience.
2) The Dubai Mall
There are so many amazing malls in Dubai but I want to focus on the largest shopping mall in the entire world, are you beginning to see a pattern here?
Home to SEGA Republic and Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, Dubai Mall also offers over 1,200 retail stores of almost every brand you can possibly think of.
If there’s one thing you do when you visit Dubai, you absolutely must go to The Dubai Mall. With a whopping 5.4 million square miles you’ll burn enough calories walking around the place to eat lunch twice, at least that’s the excuse I always give myself.
3) Ski Dubai
Yes. Believe it or not, Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates has an indoor ski resort with real snow.
The first time you walk into Ski Dubai and contemplate the huge indoor ski resort being kept at a chilly -4°C while outside is being roasted by 40°C I guarantee you’ll be humbled.
Ski Dubai has 5 slopes of varying difficulties to suit even the most novice skier, it has Zorb ball slopes, toboggan and sledding areas. Oh, and did I mention? Penguins.
Come to Dubai and visit the penguins.
4) iFly Dubai
I was going to mention Skydive Dubai here but, personally, I’m a huge fan of the iFly Indoor Skydiving experience at City Centre Mall in Mirdif as this experience is open and available to almost everybody!
As they say, ‘From ages 3 to 103,’ you’re welcome to try skydiving at iFly. You can book through Godesto .
For as little as 195 AED (£40) you can feel as light as a feather as one of iFly’s instructors shows you how to master the wind in their 10 meter tall vertical wind tunnels. That’s sure to blow the cobwebs off.
5) Dubai Fountains
I can hear you all collectively say, ‘Pff, fountains?’ But Dubai’s world famous fountain show under the Burj Khalifa is the second largest choreographed fountain show in the world.
A spectacle of lights, sound and, well, obviously, water. The Dubai Fountains perform daily, for free, at 1:00PM, 1:30PM and then every 30 minutes from 6PM to 10PM on weekdays and from 6PM to 11PM on weekends.
The fountain’s jets can blast water up to 500m high, which is truly a sight to behold while the lights and sound make the entire event a spectacle to remember.
You don’t even get wet, it’s great.
So there you have it, my personal top 5 greatest things about Dubai and why you should visit.
What do you think?
Which of these sound exciting or boring to you or if you’re a Dubai aficionado, what are some of your favourite things?
