Do Australian need Visa for Europe?
European countries are part of the European Union and Schengen territory. If you are a national citizen of any of the following countries, you will not require a visa to travel to a Schengen member European country.
- The United States of America
- New Zealand
This clearly specifies that Australians do not require a visa to travel to Europe. They can travel visa free to any desirable European country and apply for residency or work permit on arrival.
Europe Visa Validity:
There is a general misconception that permanent citizens of Australia will only be allowed to stay in Europe for a restricted period of time; since they are traveling visa-free. This is not the case, however. Australian permanent residents can apply for residential or work permit visa on arrival to the European destination. The validity of visa is not restricted, for instance in the case of work visa – the visa is likely to remain valid for as long as you are employed in the specific country.
Europe Visa Documentation Requirements:
Australian permanent residents can travel visa-free to Europe. There are a few important documents that you will need to carry along with you nonetheless.
- Valid passport that is minimally 6 months away from expiry
- Proof of citizenship (in this case; Australian passport or NIC)
- Passport size photographs
- Flight ticket details
- Proof of accommodation
- Cover letter that clearly states the purpose of travel
Where to Submit?
The visa grant application is submitted to the Schengen visa embassy of the European country where you are traveling to.
How Long Does Visa Grant Take?
In the case of on-arrival visa, you do not need to apply for it beforehand. Countries like Australia that allow residents to travel visa free can travel without a visa and apply for visa permit on arrival. This will not take more than a few hours to get you through the entire process. However, in case you are coming from a country that does not allow visa-free travel – it is best to apply for a visa at least 2 to 3 months prior the planned trip.
