Glimpses of South Waziristan.

1. South Waziristan has been known to all as the land of terrorists. In the news this place has always been linked with terrorism but today I want to show you people the flip side of the coin. This Elaqa Ghair is now called South Waziristan District (SWD) after its merger with KPK in Mar 2017. SWD has a very diverse and beautiful landscape that includes green mountains, vast dried land and beautiful spring water streams. We have here wide variety of fruits like apricot, apple, plum, almond, and huge forests of Pinus gerardiana (Chalghoza). The sweet potato’s of the area are the one that is used in Fries at fast food chains like KFC and MacDonald. It is also rich in minerals like chromite, copper and Coal. The wild life is equally amazing, ranging from monkeys, rabbits, cranes (Migratory bird from Siberia Russia), francolin etc and to my surprise brown wolf is also found in the mountains of Asmaan Panga and Preghar. I wonder do we have brown wolves anywhere else in Pakistan? Preghar having a height 11500 ft is the highest of mountain in the Waziristan. The weather is similarly beautiful, it is very cold in winters but pleasant & hot 🧐 both in summers, it rains almost daily between 1400 hrs to 1700 hrs in most parts of the district. SWD has lot many things to offer but area had been plagued with terrorism since long. The Gora FCR system continued till Mar 2017 that resulted in poverty, lawlessness and extremism. However, life is coming back to the area after 15 years of war, sacrifices and continues resolve of the nation but slow in pace. Local tourists of the area are visiting the mountains in summer specially during Vacations and Eids ceremonies, which is very satisfying. Youth of the area is exuberant and talented. IA soon these forbidden lands will become part of mainstream Pakistan. I hope govt take some positive steps in uplifting of these areas.
I am sharing few pics that I took while travelling and walking in different parts of the SWD. I wish I was a better photographer or had a better camera to capture these moments the way it looks from a naked eye.
